Torbay Events and Festivals

Thinking of a visit to the Bay? There’s always plenty to do around here but just in case you want to arrange your holiday around a particular event:

30th April- 2nd May

BMAD Festival in Paignton.

Bikes, bikes and more bikes. Motor bikes, that is! Paignton is famous for it, they have weekly bike nights throughout the summer. The BMAD festival kicks off a mad summer of Biking (is that what Bmad stands for?) There are live  bands too and lots more.

30th April- 3rd May

Brixham Pirate and Shanty Festival:

Need I say more…try keeping the kids away from this! Brixham is a picturesque and working fishing town steeped in naudical history. A favorite day trip from Torquay.

31st May-4th June

Geopark Festival.

Celebrating Torbay’s new status as a Geological ‘Gem’.

4-5th June

Occombe Beer Festival.

Who needs Munich? Even if you don’t like beer, you mustn’t miss this one!

10th-20th June

Babbacombe Festival.

You’ve got to hand it to Babbacombe, a small self contained clifftop community, for organizing one of the best little festivals. They manage to attract reallygood musicians from all over the country!

10th-13th June

Pride Torbay

Torquay is proud to host ‘the Campest show on Earth’. Pub and club events, boat trips, films, street party!

Now there’s afew reasons to visit Torquay backpackers! If anyone knows of other events that are going onplease post a comment! wow, can’t wait for summer….don’t expect to see me on Backpacker reception much!

Of course we mustn’t forget the fantastic live music scene in Torquay and here is a quick summary of the weekly jam (open mic) nights.

Monday: Devon Arms, up Park Lane near the Harbour. Hosted by Si and Lauren.

Tuesday: The famous Cider Press Jam night, Fleet Walk. Hosted by Barnie and his possie of talented musicians. This is one of the best nights out in the Bay!
Tuesday: Ryans Bar, Abbey Road. Acoustic folk night. Chilled and intimate, a mellow alternative to the Cider Press.
Wednesday: Ryans Bar, Abbey Road. Blues jam night. There are always plenty of quality performers to entertain.

Wednesday: JDs bar, Fleet Walk, near the harbour. Emily, Tim and the Gman, play to thrill. Crazy covers and talented friends.

Thursday: Devon Arms, up Park Lane near the Harbour. Jazz night. Always has a quality jazz band/performer.

    Fri/Sat/Sun
There isn’t much need for jamming to draw in the pubs cos everyone is out and about anyway. There is plenty of live music around though!
